Great Deal Sony BRAVIA W-Series KDL-46W5100 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

I bought this TV during the Thanksgiving day sale...for a total of 73 including the Blue Ray player, delivery and setup. To this day, I have not seen a better deal on this combo. The delivery and setup was impeccable.

This is my first LCD TV and did a lot of research. Finally, it was between a Samsung and Sony. The two things that tipped in favor of the Sony was the matte finish screen and the sound quality (that I tested at my local Best Buy). We have a very bright living room and the matte finish makes a difference.

I was not too thrilled with the sound. While it was better than the Samsung, at higher volume I could hear the speakers jarring. So, finally I bought a Sony Sound Bar to get around the issue.Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Subwoofer - Black

Picture quality is excellent. I wondered if the 46" was going to be too big since my previous TV was a 27"...but it suited our living room perfectly. I love it's looks. However, I do wish it had a swivel stand. It would have made it easier when I had to reach around the back.

I did not have a wired internet connection to test the internet features. Just last week, I hooked up a wireless ethernet bridge Cisco-Linksys WET610N Wireless-N Bridge to finally start using the internet features. I am not too excited about the internet features...it works well, but there's not enough internet content that I like.

Overall, a great TV.

Ok, so I take my time when buying big-ticket items, and I bought my 46W5100 from Amazon on a deal that matched the price point and feature targets I wanted. Even as of today, in April 2010, some six months after my original purchase the deal I got is still a good deal.

First let me say that I love this Sony TV, the KDL46W5100 its a keeper, even though there are some things I don't like, it does "bring it" where it counts.

PROS: Picture quality, connectivity, internet features, they are all there. The built-in Netflix-streaming widget is awesome and I almost use that more than DVD's anymore.

Picture quality is something to behold, especially when watching Blu-Ray content, spectacular, Sony nailed it here. Connectivity, this unit has lots of HDMI jacks, 100Mbit ethernet, digital audio, line-out audio, etc, etc, Sony nailed it here. Internet Widgets, Sony did a good job here but there are some disappointments, the DLNA connectivity is weak, more on this later.

CONS: Speaker Rattle, DLNA connectivity, and some of the user interface is annoying.

Speaker rattle is caused by bass sounds in movies, its probably common to all large HDTV's the solution? Hook your TV to an external amp + speakers. The user interface makes it unnecessarily hard to toggle the TV speakers on or off, no biggie, but annoying.

I have had the product for one month now. The TV was very easy to setup and use. It looks great. I like the way the menu is easy to use - only wish the manual went into more depth about some of the controls. The main item that I dislaike is the sound system. It is very weak. Watching DVDs and some TV programs I need to max the sound level out - and even then it is not sufficient. I finally called customer service about this issue and told me that there is a software update that will take care of the problem. FYI the TV can only handle flash drive/memory sticks uo to 2 GB. All mine are over that so customer service told me that they would send the updates on a flash drive. Sure hope it works...

Sharp Aquos TV w/built in blue ray DVD, it's a problem. After 5 months of use I had to take a day off work to meet the repair man because the blue ray quit working & still is hanging up. I have to unplug it to get it to reset. The sound is awful because the speakers are behind the screen & pointing away from the people watching so I bought a Sharp sound bar & it quite working also. So overall I don't recommed Sharp products because the quality is poor their support is worse.

LCD and Plasma TV's Are Found to be Highly Reliable

Consumer Reports released a report which claims that LCD and Plasma TV's require very few repairs within the first 3 years. Consumers who buy the extended warranties on Plasma or LCD TV's this year will be wasting their money. It's very unlikely that anything will happen within the first three years! Thats great news for people who are about to purchase these items for Christmas gifts.

LCD and Plasma TV's have a 3% repair rate according to Consumer Reports Annual Product Reliability Survey for December. On the other hand, Rear-projection TV's were found to have a much higher repair rate than LCD or Plasma TV's.

Panasonic's 50-inch TH-50PZ700U Plasma TV was named Consumer Reports' best flat-panel TV ever tested. Overall, Panasonic flat-panel TV's had a 2% repair rate.

Among those that required repair, the average cost was $264 on LCD TV's and $395 on Plasma TV's.

If you insist on buying the extended warranty on your new LCD or Plasma TV make sure it is no more that 15% of the total cost of the TV. Some retailers push you to buy this but remember the average price for a repair would be much less in some cases than the extended warranty.

Flat panel high definition TV's were at the top of most peoples wish lists this Christmas. It was closely followed by a Windows based notebook computer and a digital camera.

Remember, before buying a big ticket item like a TV, read reviews online first. Just because the sales person says it is a good TV does not really mean it is.

Nowadays, there are highly competent, anti-reflection polarizer films available in the market. This polarizer film when applied to the LCD screen increases display contrast as well as readability. Images become sharper and clearer; the screen provides deeper colors; it allows for a wider viewing angle in bright settings; and protects LCD panels from scratches and fingerprints.

The flat panel in the LCD television makeup is the most exorbitant item to replace. In fact in some cases, it could exceed the cost of the total unit. Split or broken LCD panels obviously need replacement. Another sigh of a flawed panel are lines running the length of the panel. Still, three quarters of such panels can be repaired.

Important Buying Tips For a Canon Rebel SLR Camera

I bought a Canon Rebel SLR camera a few months ago and I like it quite a bit. The Xsi is the first digital SLR I ever owned and at first I wasn't sure about choosing a camera that was untested. But, since I liked Canon for a long time now, I decided to go with it. The photo quality that Xsi offers is good. I already took a number of very good looking photos, the IS lens doing its job quite well. There are a few things that I like and a few that I don't. You can read about them below.

The life of the battery - the battery life is very good. With just two battery charges so far, I took more than 5000 photos with this camera.

Live View - this feature isn't designed to be used by beginners. It's not the same thing as Point and Shoot. When the auto mode is engaged, Live View can't be used. I don't really care about that, since I usually go with the manual mode, but since it should be something that Point and Shoot users find usable, this defeats the purpose a bit. For example, my wife isn't able to use this feature, even though the reason I bought this camera was for its Live View option. If you want to buy a camera with a Live View usable in auto mode, you should look at other cameras. If it's not that important, the camera is very good, and it's worth the money you pay for it. If the camera will be used in a studio, the Xsi can be easily connected to a computer, which can be used as a remote viewer. If you're a landscape or studio photographer, this camera is extremely good, but for beginners it's not that great.

Image Quality - I took some great photos both outdoor and in studios. A white background and tungsten hot lights were used in the studio and the quality of the photos was very good. As for the outdoors, I have an interest in beekeeping and the shots that I got of bees were absolutely stunning from up-close. The details were crisp and very beautiful. You should buy a lens that is longer in the future though, as this one is a bit short.

All in all, this camera fits nicely in your hands and it's pretty solid. It feels reliable, even though it's not heavy. The price is a bit bigger than with other cameras, but if it's within your budget, then it's great. If you wait for a few months, the price will probably drop considerably. It wasn't exactly within my budget, but with a little bit of extra work, I could buy it, and the quality makes it all worth it.

Design: The Samsung LN52B750 52-inch LCD HDTV is predominantly black in color, with glossy black surfaces on all four sides of the frame. What a relief that Samsung has decided to ditch the red touch of colors of this new model as I personally think that black is the best color of TV and AV devices. At the tip of all four sides, there is an extended layer of transparent plastic. This TV rests on a rectangular stand and a transparent cylindrical supporter (it can be swiveled from side to side).

Features & Performance: The Samsung LN52B750 52-inch LCD HDTV has a 240HZ refresher rate that is supposed to further smooth-en fast motion/action sequences on the screen. However, it was difficult to spot the difference when compared side by side with other models that has a 120HZ refresher rate. This model has highly customizable settings with a wide variety of color and image controls and features such as blur reduction and judder reduction. When connected to the internet, it supports Yahoo Widgets. The video quality of this model was very good with very deep blacks and good color accuracy. The quality of standard definition videos was also very impressive. The only thing that I didn't really liked about this model is its glossy screen. Under bright lighting conditions, it reflects a lot of the lights in the background. Other than that, the Samsung LN52B750 52-inch LCD HDTV will prove to be a great buy if you can spare a few extra dollars. I give it a four out of five stars.

I am NOT a tech person, just average with TV's & PC's. The Sony Bravia was a snap to hook up, I used one HDMI cable from the cable box, and the other HDMI cable from the DVD into the back of the Sony Bravia, and I was all done! Simple. The set looks outstanding, and comes with a clear manual of instructions. It will do a lot more than I need (i.e. PIP) and yet it is simple to operate. An excellent buy for the money, and a Consumer Reports "Best Buy" in their recent magazine (according to my brother who noticed it). I highly recommend this set since 720p is what the stations will be broadcasting in and the picture is fabulous.

We purchased this TV last fall from Amazon. Even though it's "only" 720p, the picture quality when watching HD channels and DVD's is excellent. The quality of regular TV channels is decent and watchable. We also use it to watch Netflix streaming movies through our computer and the experience is surprisingly good.
If you buy from Amazon, don't forget to watch the prices for 30 days after the purchase. If the price is reduced, Amazon will refund you the difference. We got almost 0 back this way, but they will not do it automatically. You need to send them an email and ask for it.

BRAVIA Theatre Sync
BRAVIA Theatre Sync reduces the hassle and time consuming job of powering up, changing the signal routing, and adjusting other functions to the simple push of one button.
