To this day, I am still very surprised at fact that there is so little all-in-one television sets in the market. In recent years, majority of the households in the US have a TV set and a DVD player. Despite that fact, there is only a handful of TVs with a built-in DVD player in the market. Here is a quick review of one of the best models, the Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch widescreen LCD TV.
Specifications: The Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch widescreen LCD TV can play videos at up to 1366 x 768 in resolution (720p). It also has an 800:1 contrast ratio. Besides playing DVD movies, this model also supports WMA files, MP3, JPEG and DIVX playback. It has a 5ms response time and built-in stereo speakers. It ships with an attached stand, a remote control and a power cable.
Design: This model has a high gloss front panel and stand. The speakers are located below the screen and the DVD player is located on the back of the LCD screen. To load a DVD, you simply slide in the disc from the side. One of the biggest flaws of this model is that it can't be mounted on the wall. It also does not have any connection ports on the front. All the connection ports are located on the back of the TV. It measures at 5.5 inches thick.
Summary: the Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch widescreen LCD TV produces very clear images, especially for a 15" screen. The back-lights, picture format and audio are highly customizable. The surface of the screen is matte, which greatly reduces the amount of glare in a brightly lighted room. On the downside, the stand is not adjustable and cannot be rotated from side to side. I also wish that it came with bigger screens as the 15" display really limits its use. Nevertheless, it is a great little LCD TV to have in small and tight spaces (like your kid's room, kitchen, office or boat).

Everyone wants quality and affordable LCD HDTV and all manufacturers say that their TVs are both of high quality and affordable. So is that mean all LCD HDTV out there worth buying? How does a customer choose the right LCD HDTV? Well the answer is it all depends on your needs. Will you use it to play games or an alternate computer monitor or just simply to watch tv programs? When you're anxious to buy your first HDTV take a deep breath and relax. You'll need a cool head to choose between all those brands and models.
Okay, let's start. Some things to look for on an LCD HDTV are it's maximum resolution, color depth, and refresh rates. The higher the numbers the better. First is the maximum resolution. Current LCD TV market mainly offers 720p and 1080p resolution. However, if you want the highest definition, that would be 1080p (1920x1080). High refresh rate is especially noticeable when you're watching fast movements either in movies or games. The high refresh rate allows the image transition looking smooth.
So, now that you got the resolution, color depth and refresh rates taken care of it's time to look at the other aspect for example the speaker. The built in speakers you'll find in a LCD HDTV usually have so so quality. So if when buy it's probably better to go to your local store and listen to the sound. Ask the seller to play an action dvd or something like that and lister for yourself. If you're not really sure what a great speaker should sound like then you could try reading the online reviews for the TVs. Learning from other's experience and opinions can make your buying decision a lot easier.
Other things you may want to consider before buying are the TV design (will it look good in the TV room?), whether it has a built-in Digital Tuner (so you can take advantage of the new Digital broadcast signals), is a wall mount included (so you can hang it on the bedroom wall) and other accessories. It need not be a worn-out over used set turned on for countless hours while it is being displayed on a retail store, or a damaged unit brought in for repairs and resold. Do not confuse refurbished with reconditioned, the latter is more of what you should avoid. Also, there are factory refurbished LCD units and third party refurbished. Opt for the former.
Refurbished LCD TVs may include the following:
(a) Units which have been returned by customers after 30 days of use (not necessarily defective). These units are practically as good as new and you need not worry about its condition or that it will blow up when you use it. Remember, a factory refurbished product generally still carries an official warranty.
(b) LCD TVs which have been returned due to shipping or exterior damage. No, there is no problem with the set itself. There may be a few minor scratches in the outer shell of the unit, but that has been repaired by the manufacturer. Good as new and priced less. How can you resist something like that?
(c) The box of the brand new LCD unit has been opened. No, don't laugh. A brand new unit with an opened box which has been reboxed by the manufacturer is considered a refurbished unit. And thanks to that, you get to pay less for the thing, which is practically brand new.
(d) LCDs with defects during production and have been recalled (and have been repaired by the manufacturer).Now, you may want to pass on this one but still the unit has been repaired.
(e) Overstock Items. A new model comes out, and the older ones are sold on a sale, or are taken back by the manufacturer and are resold. These units are considered as refurbished units. Much lower priced than a newer model, and even lower priced compared to its contemporaries. And best of all, it is practically brand new.

This television is everything we wanted in an upgrade of our "old" SONY television. We purchased a home theater surround sound system to enhance our time in front of the tv. "Let it snow, let it snow...let it snow!"
Be careful when buying Sony LCD TV - Jane -
I bought this Sony LCD TV set at 2008 Christmas. It was excellent in picture and sound, seemed to be better than Samsung LCD TV. Meanwhile, just 2-3 months after the one year warranty, it was found that there was a 2-or-3-pixel-wide vertical line, about 2 inches from the left brim, and from the top to bottom brim, presenting in the screen when watching TV programs, DVD, and BlueRay, which were suspected to be dead pixels. The software was updated to sony_dtv_package206r.p08 but the line was still there. SONY support office told me that this might be caused by TV brocasters! And I need to bring it to repair if it presists after hiding "broadcaster noise" attempts, while the cost won't be covered by SONY as the warranty has expired.
In brief, if you want to watch the TV just for one year, then buy it. Otherwise, think twice!
BIG BLACK line after 14 months of use - Sorry NO warranty! - J. Acheson - IA United States
Oh NO, my beautiful SONY, true branded SONY... big black line down the screen. Oh the horror and dismay! I received this LCD TV in October 2008 as a 10 year anniversary present. We bought it from Amazon Warehouse Deals. I had to kick in some of my own money to up the brand to a Sony. After a little over 1 year, it developed a big black line down from the top to the bottom of the screen in the RED spectrum only. Green and Blue are fine. But when red shows up on the TV, a big black "burned out pixel line" shows very prominently. So I thought, well, there goes the 00 we spent on this TV. NOT MY BEAUTIFUL SONY! But alas, after all I could do, no fixing the black line. The Sony authorized service folks told me the LCD panel would need to be replaced and that cost more than to just go buy a new TV. I also called Sony and they told me I would be on my own to get it repaired (again told that the cost of repairs is more than the cost of the TV brand new).
So, 00 for 14 months of Sony TV use... amounts to 0 a month rental fee and Mother Earth and the trash dump takes one on the chin for another disposable piece of electronic wizardry.
Yes the TV still works, yes one could live with the black line down the TV side but for me every time I watch TV, that line stares at me and I think about nothing but "Dang, this was supposed to be a SONY!"
So, I cannot recommend this product even though for the 1 year it looked beautiful. Unless you buy an GIANT extended warranty, it is wicked to buy a TV and have it last only 1 to 3 years. My 1991 Sony Trinitron still works perfect. My how the brand has suffered over the years. So sad and disappointing.
On the plus side, now I have an excuse to go get a much bigger TV. Maybe this time I will try Samsung... with a MASSIVE extended warranty!

I was perfectly satisied with the product for the price. The battery that came with it would not hold a charge, however, so I called the customer service number for iView. A real person answered, transferred me instantly to tech support who sent out a new battery very quickly. Then somehow, I lost the coaxial adapter, I called to buy one, again live person answers, no menu, no press "1" type thing and NO wait on hold! They just took my info and are sending me out a new one FREE!!! I can only wish this company made every type of electronics I ever need to buy! 10 stars for tech support!

Should I go for LCD or Plasma HDTV? This is the first thing that comes to mind when you are planning to buy a high definition television for you and your family. To help you make a decision, you need to know the pros and cons of buying these types of high definition television.
The first thing that you should look at is the similarities between the two types of high definition television. The main similarity between the two types of high definition television is that they both have crisper images and brighter colors than the normal television sets.
However, the similarities end there. The type of bright image and crisp colors are very different from one another. Here is a look at their unique characteristics.
Plasma television
The main thing that separates plasma television from LCD television is that it has a very high contrast ratio. The contrast ratio refers to the ratio between the deepest dark and the brightest color that your screen can generate. It is safe to assume that the bigger the contrast ratio, the more dynamic the colors are.
This means that plasma television can generate the deepest black that you can see as well as a wide range of color range that you can use. Another advantage of plasma screens is that they have a wider viewing angle than LCD television giving you the optimum performance.
However, it does have its shortcomings, one of well known disadvantages of plasma tv is that they are not very useful in high altitude environments. This is because of the way that they work. Plasma television sets use a millions and millions of chambers which contain different gases that when come in contact with electrical charges, react and create a wide variety of colors. In high altitudes, these gases cannot react as nicely as they want therefore creating dull colors.
LCD television
One of the biggest advantages of LCD television is that they are less susceptible to burn ins. Burn in is a term that describes and image that seemingly is embedded on the screen. Gamers will definitely appreciate this feature that is why many gamers prefer LCD televisions so that they can enjoy the graphics and the whole gaming experience. Also, as of today, LCD television has a longer lifespan than plasma television. They are also lighter and more compact - with fewer restrictions on the altitude.
It is said that if you want a small high definition television then your obvious choice is the LCD. On the other hand, if you want a big HDTV then you must go with plasma since it will give you the brightest colors that you can imagine. Just remember to think of the pros and cons of both types of HDTV when shopping. Remember that it is a matter of preference and that how you use your high definition television should dictate what choice you will make.

First off, OneCall and Conway delivery were excellent to deal with. As someone stated before in a previous review, I received an email, then a follow-up call after purchasing from Amazon. No problems with shipping either. Now for the TV... Back in December of last year, I had purchased a Vizio (551XVT) from Costco. I had that TV for 3 months, then returned it because it had "shadowing" on the screen. Basically, there was a blemish in the middle of my 55" that I couldn't tolerate since I shelled out 2K. It was a good TV, not great. I then decided to try an LG (55LH90) which was also a good TV, even better than the Vizio. I decided I was going to keep that until I saw this TV drop in price dramatically. Both of the previous Tv's had the local dimming/backlit like this one, but the difference is Sony's red, green and blue bulbs that I think make a difference in picture quality. Everyone's taste is different and people will tell you that their TV rivals anyone else's...blah,blah,blah. I'm not one to go and brag about a purchase, but I will tell you to check this TV out as it is worth the price. It's two years old, but I can tell you it's as good as the LCD's/ Plasmas that are coming out today. I researched mainly LCD's because glare is an issue in my living room. No problem there as this TV has a matte screen. Ironically, I was looking at the new models this year and many of them have the ultra-clear panel, which is glossy. I think the 3-d Tv's are nice, but to me, if I'm going to watch 3-D, it will be in a theater, not in my home. Plus, there isn't much content out right now to justify dropping 3-4k. Once I got this TV hooked up and got the settings to my liking, I was very impressed and happy that I waited. It probably won't be in stores anymore as it is 2 years old. But, see for yourself, read all the other reviews and go to CNet too as they gave this TV a really good score. I am very picky and don't have any quams about returning products if their not up to my standards. I ordered this blindly and would definately recommend it. PS3 and Hi-Def are gorgeous...
