Although this Vizio cannot compete with higher-end HD televisions boasting 120 HZ and 1080p resolution, it was far the best performer in the price range I was considering, although I did shop around to find the best price. I consider this the largest set (32") that can still deliver a crisp LCD picture with 720p/60HZ specs. You won't notice the difference unless you already have a higher end television; even then, most people cannot tell the difference at this size. The picture is bright and sharp, particularly when using the "Vivid" picture setting. Set-up is mostly intuitive, although there was one hiccup, as I'll describe later.
Pros: price/value; crisp, bright picture; good remote; mostly easy set-up; 2 HDMI input connections, plus component, RGB, and RF; 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio; excellent picture with HD, DVD, or Blu-Ray input; you can use the included stand or hang it on the wall; sleek appearance.
Cons: specifications that are becoming outdated; difficult to reach connections in the back of the set (connect everything before you put it in place!)
The only momentary problem I had occurred when the TV wouldn't pick up the cable channels. A quick look at the troubleshooting section of the handbook pointed me toward the manual tuning feature, which took five minutes or so to load all the channels. Because an Amazon reviewer recommended that owner use the retail setting for the best picture (instead of the Energy/ECO setting), I ended up with a picture that displayed Vizio's advertised specs at the bottom. To get rid of the display, I had to select the Home setting -- and I had to search for the channels all over again. (Note: as long as you select "Vivid" as your picture mode, you will get the brightness you saw at the store.) I found that 32" is the perfect size for a bedroom, apartment, or other small to mid-size room.
HD televisions really need an HD source to look their best, so if you only have a regular digital picture, you will see less than sharp edges, although the picture is still fine, especially from a distance. HD signals -- whether from cable or satellite or Blu-Ray -- really show up well on this set and are well worth the extra expense if you can afford it. Because manufacturers are selling fewer and fewer 720p/60 HZ sets, you should look for bargains, as many of these models are being discontinued and therefore discounted.
Good All Around Except.... - EA - Philadelphia, PA
The unit is excellent except for a superficial flaw with a rationale understood only by an apparently insecure VIZIO. They light up their overly large "VIZIO" logo in the center bottom of the panel and it is very distracting when viewing. The simple solution was to cover it with black electrician tape to match the frame, leaving a bit exposed to check its on\off status. Otherwise: set up was easy, menu is friendly and functional; remote is functional; outlets in the back are well positioned and well marked; general appearance is good; and, importantly, picture quality is good with several viewing choices, depending on what is being watched: (movies, football, standard, games etc..)Summary: a good set and a good value except for the "neon" logo.

Add Style To Any Room The chic textured finish of this 32-Inch ECO HDTV sets it apart the pack. Consuming less energy than traditional HDTVs, it exceeds current Energy Star Guidelines by at least 15%. The High Definition resolution and 15,000:1 contrast ratio deliver an exceptional HD viewing experience in a stylish, sophisticated package. Current Version 3.0 ENERGY STAR TV products Specification require that all qualified televisions address both active and standby power (when your TV is on and off). This VIZIO HDTV meets the current minimum standards by 15% saving you money on your utility bills.

High Definition Multimedia Interface or HDMI is a digital video-audio cable that provides a connection between the digital audio and video systems such as home theater systems, DVD players, television monitors as well as many other entertainment systems. HDMI connectors are available in various shapes and colors and try to transmit uncompressed data. Today, HDMI connectors are considered as an effective alternative to the radio frequency coaxial cable, S-video, D-terminal, composite video and VGA video.
The HDMI cable rates have created a major stir in the electronics market in many countries with their first release in the year 2003. More than fifty companies of consumer electronics and PC have purchased these connectors, making full use of their reliability and productive efficiency. This is because they support all the high definition and enhanced television, MPEG streams and computer systems available in the market presently.
HDMI cables are designed specifically to enhance the picture as well as the sound quality of all high-quality digital systems. With the latest versions developed and released, the possible potential of the cables are profound and infinite. Most of the versions of the HDMI cable basically include three kinds of connectors, which are known as standard connectors. Type A as well as Type C cables available in the market is available with nineteen pins to support the ED, HDTV and SD formats. However, the Type B pins available in the market have twenty-nine and are capable of offering lengthy video resolution like WQSXGA. Moreover, the HDMI connectors will help you to get rid of the mess of wires.
On the other hand, there are a number of different versions of HDMI cable available in the market today. Most of these versions have their own unique features as well as specifications associated with them. The HDMI connector will carry the video as well as the audio signals to one source to another. Moreover, these signals are carried in a single wire. Therefore, if you are looking for an option to enhance the quality of your videos and audios, make sure you opt for a HDMI cable.

After much research and debate, we decided to purchase the Sony Bravia Z KDL-46Z5100 46" 240 HZ LCD TV through Amazon. We went with Vann's. The TV arrived several days ahead of schedule (Vann's did their part) but we ended up having to wait an additional day for delivery because the Fed Ex driver obviously did not want to deliver this big, bulky box on a wet, extremely windy, stormy day. I waited home all day the day the TV was to be delivered because of the signature requirement for the delivery, only to find at the very end of the day that the driver had arrived at 8:30 that morning, had failed to ring the front door bell and had instead gone to a garage side door (with no bell) and left an attempted delivery notice which proceeded to blow off the door and fortunately land on the porch and stick in the wet snowy slush. If you could see our house you would understand that this choice was an obvious choice to avoid delivery (down a steep driveway and off to the side of the garage when the driver easily could have walked from his truck staight to the front door). I called to reschedule delivery for the next day but was unable to do so because the postage they use with the "free shipping" does not allow you to schedule a delivery time. The following day thinking that they would deliver around the same time of day I was prepared for them in the early AM with a note on the side entrance instucting them to use the front door and to please ring the bell. I again waited the entire day, the TV finally arrived at the very end of the day. Upon arrival, the box was in bad shape, very dirty, torn and water damaged. My heart sank but upon opening the box I discovered that there was a box within a box and the original packing box was in perfect condition! Yeah!
I wasted two work days waiting for the "free shipment" so my advise would be to pay the shipping cost for an upgrade so that you can schedule your shipment delivery time unless you or someone else is home anyway. My lost time was worth much more than the added cost of shipping. Another thing they don't tell you is that Fed Ex and UPS are not supposed to allow you to open a package until you have signed for it. You are told to inspect the package BEFORE you sign, checking for obvious damage and to refuse the shipment if you feel that it is damaged. I got a good driver who bent the rules for me because the box was in such poor condition but you can't count on getting one of the "nice" guys. If I had refused delivery based on the exterior condition of the box, I would have sent back a perfectly good TV and I would have been without my new set for a much longer period of time.
That all having been said, we LOVE the TV! It was a great choice. We were planning to buy a sound system for it but feel that we do not need it. The sound is great. We've been watching the Winter Olympics this week and I have to say, this TV is the next best thing to being in Vancouver! And..we're much warmer!
We were worried that the 46" size would be too large for our very small cozy den but decided to go with it anyway because everyone told us "bigger is better." Absolutely correct! Because it is so thin, it actually takes up much less space in the room than our older model Sony 27" TV did. The room looks larger and roomier! And we have our own personal movie theater. The colors are vibrant and great, the blacks are good and there is no blurring.
We hooked it up ourselves (just us girls) using a Mediabridge Ultra Series HDMI cable that we also ordered from Amazon for .00. Much cheaper than the 0.00 Monster cable that we originally purchased and returned to Best Buy. The hookup was simple and the picture is great!
We definitely recommend this TV! A great set for the price.
Exceptional TV - Richard J. Clark -
Very pleased so far. The picture and sound are extremely good and the ease of set-up was a pleasant surprise.
One of the best TVs without an LED array! - Nathan Blubaugh - Media, PA
This TV is excellent! Very easy to use and setup.
Features on this TV are extensive but not exhaustive. The Nextflix and Amazon steaming are great but you can't edit the que from the TV. There are plenty of other added features that are nice as well. However, loading times are long on this model (not a fault of internet speed, steaming is HQ and smooth). The type of files you can send to this TV from your computer or USB are limited. Customer service said it would handle only MP3s and MPEGs. I tried experimenting with ACC, Flack, Vob, WMV, and Quicktime files with no luck.
Sound is pretty decent for standard speakers. Midrange is well pronounced making voices easy to hear, but treble and bass are diminished. Off-axis listening is less then desirable making listening in he next room hard.
Picture Quaility is very, very good. The best of witnessed under k right now. The 10bit color adds and extra pop to all images. Obviously it really shows on blu-ray but I think it makes all shows a little better. Further on that matter, this TV handles SD broadcasts very well. The TVs lighting is well balanced but it definitely falls short on decent blacks when you're watching HD. When I say this I am compairing it to all TVs but for fluorescent LCDs it's pretty darn good. One thing in particular with this model I noticed is that the corners are sometimes washed out when high backlighting is used. I think this must be how the tubes are arranged.
Glare is not as pronounced as i would have thought with the glossy screen. Off-angle viewing is excellent. I have a desk parked perpendicular to the screen and I can turn my head and see everything very clearly. I mean it's not as sharp but it's hard to notice a difference on TV broadcasts. Nothing I would complain about.
Overall, highly recomended. In my opinion, this is the best TV in this price range. A full array of LEDs is the only way this TV could be better.

I did a lot of research before buying this set. My main criteria was that any TV I purchased have superior black levels and lots of inputs. This set did not disappoint. The picture is beautiful. An added and unexpected benefit was that it is able to accept sound inputs independent of the video which came in handy since my Dish Network HD receiver seems to be unable to send audio out over the HDMI cable. I just plugged the composite sound out from the receiver into the Viera and it worked perfectly. The TV also had Viera Cast, which are web apps that connect to various video websites. It seems rudimentary at the moment and Netflix is not on it.
I cannot tell you how happy I am with my purchase.

Excellent picture, Excellent value - altotwo - Yorktown VA USA
Can't beat this set for picture and price. The plasma black levels are awesome. Extremely realistic color. Required virtually no tweaks at startup, and out of the box setup was very easy. The THX-compliant setting is superb for movies. I just leave it on for everything. That is one feature not available on many models that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good HDTV. Only real drawback is the internal speakers, which are just mediocre (but that is the case with most all TVs). Basic Amazon shipping was great!

I wasn't expecting to get a top of the line 1080p TV, and I pretty much got what I expected. The Aquos is very attractive TV- it has a very pleasing high-gloss black finish, a nice stand and a cool, grey speaker grill. The sound on the Aquos is terrible, so I suggest getting your own receiver and speakers (which I had, so I didn't really mind). The picture quality is great, but the other day I noticed some very, very faint banding on the screen. It's hardly noticeable, but if you're like me (you over-inspect everything), then it might start getting annoying. My girlfriend says that she cannot see any banding, so maybe I'm just seeing things. Overall I'm very happy with the TV, considering the price. I picked it up for 0, and after a few months of research, this was the best price/ value I could find for a 46" TV made by a reputable company with decent customer service. If you're looking to buy a quality, cheap 46" TV, then the Aquos might be for you!

Great Picture, Good Sound. No Blur! Receives OTA digital broadcasts without an external antenna. More than enough inputs for my DVD, XBox, XBox360, PS1, Gamecube, N64 and Media PC! Simply AWESOME TV!
Do not buy this TV - Jennifer Lynn Nagel - Florida
We were so happy with this TV, until recently. Just over a year old...and JUST out of warranty...we too have the blinking lights/won't power on issue. We have used this TV maybe five hours a week at most over the last year and are just baffled as to why Sharp, and retailers think this is acceptable and continue to make and sell these. With just a few minutes of online research I have discovered that I am far from alone with this specific issue on the same set. there are complaints going back as far as 2007! We are officially in the market for a new television since we were told it could be anywhere from 0-0 to repair. No thank you. Who will guarantee the same problem won't surface again. Do not buy this or any Sharp product if you are wise.

The LG 42LH3000 is a forty two inch LCD flat panel screen with 1080p resolution, quality speaker system features, energy saving enhancements, and Freeview capability. This product offering from LG possesses the standard connections for gaming, surround sound, and other components (i. E. Blue-ray, PlayStation, etc.).
It is an HD ready LCD screen as defined by European standards. Image quality is comparable to most other models in the marketplace. Most web based customer reviews seem more than content with the picture quality. The LG 42LH3000 has three types of viewing modes: Cinema, Sport, and Game. The model also allows the user to adjust picture quality through a control guide program for those who want to further tweak their LCD screen for optimum viewing enjoyment. The screen's dynamic contrast is about 50,000:1 which is not as impressive as some of the plasma sets. The TV processes frames at a 50-Hz frequency which is somewhat average at best and could be a concern when viewing high action, fast-moving scenes.
This television's most unique attribute is probably its sound system. LG has strategically placed their speakers into the front bezel in order to enhance the audio to increase the sweet spot providing a richer and wider sound field. This 'Invisible Speaker System.. ' has the added benefit of being fine tuned by Mark Levinson.
The consumer can further enhance their listening pleasure by selecting from one of the five sound settings: Standard, Music, Cinema, Game, and Sport. Another enhancement available on the LG 42LH3000 is the 'Clear Voice 2 ' technology. This technology allows for voices to be amplified while reducing the ambient noise. This can be beneficial when watching movies that contain lots of background blare. The LCD has 20W audio out ports for installing a surround sound system and Dolby digital capability.
The LG 42LH3000 also contains three HDMI slots for connecting to high definition devices, such as Blue-ray players and certain gaming consoles. The panel also has two Scart sockets for connecting to other non-HD components such as DVD players. The screen is capable of being connected to a computer through its PC interface.
Unlike some of its competitors, the model only offers Freeview, digital land only signals, as opposed to Freesat, digital satellite television which often times requires a dish.
Energy saving technology is a key component of LG's marketing strategy with three unique features. A screen off function allows the screen to be turned off while the speakers are on. The model also has a standby mode where no electricity is consumed. Perhaps the most unique feature is the Intelligent Sensor which controls picture brightness and color depending on the ambient room lighting environment. These features make the LG 42LH3000 among the most efficient flat screen televisions which meet the criteria of the Energy Saving Trust.
The black panel TV weighs slightly more than 17 kilograms with a stand that swivels and a 178 degree viewing angle. Interestingly, one key feature lacking in the model is Picture-in-Picture capability. The price range for the LG 42LH3000 is from 499 British pounds to slightly under 700 British pounds, depending on the retailer.

I finally took the plunge for an HD set. At the time that I last set up my home theater - HD had _just_ come on market. Some early CRT-based HD sets were available, but the specification wasn't quite there, and certainly content availability was very low. The sets were _very_ expensive as well. So I simply opted for a high-end Standard Def. set from Sony.
Things were fine for a long time.
Then the LCD sets came on the market. Vendors wanted more money for what was, to my eyes, an inferior picture. CRT based sets were quickly discontinued - not necessarily because LCD technology was superior (it certainly wasn't) - but because such sets take much less floor space on a show room floor. The poor color representation, and pixelization, and motion blur of LCD sets turned me off, and Plasma wasn't much better. I just couldn't see spending more money for a worse picture, even if the set had physical advantages in terms of space, and power savings.
Well, fast forward to today. After looking over several Samsung models - I ended up purchasing this set. It's by no means the current "best available" at this point - but considering the price and quality it's quite good. The black levels on this set are amazing (none of that dark gray = black). The color representation is excellent. And, so far, judder and motion blur seem acceptably low.
Hi-definition sportscasts look amazing. NHL and NBA (currently in-season) look fantastic - the gleam of the ice or the court, or the reflections off the glass barriers is really something to see.
The X-Box 360 looks fantastic in 1080p - and video games don't seem to have any real lag between the control and updates of on-screen action.
The 3:2 pulldown, movie mode (24 fps) looks quite alright so far. Several DVDs (don't have the Blu-Ray yet) look almost Hi-Def when up-sampled (several guests have been amazed that it wasn't actually a Hi-Def source).
All in all, pleasantly happy with this set, and looking forward to several years of viewing pleasure.
Excellent TV! - Joseph A. Pagliuca III - Dedham, MA
Had this TV for over a year. Still like new. Picture and sound is crystal clear. Color is amazing. I watch sports, play 360 and PS3 games, everything looks so good. I don't have one complaint. Buy it now!

If you are in the market for a HDTV you probably are somewhat confused by all of the terminology used in the industry, but actually it doesn't take too long to learn your way around, and be an educated television consumer.
When looking for a HDTV, you will no doubt run into a couple of terms that you will need to understand very well. You will see a TV labeled as "HDTV Enabled", and then you may see others labeled "HDTV Ready" or "HDTV Integrated". There is not usually much difference between the "Ready" set and the "Integrated" set. They both are ways of saying that the TV has a HDTV tuner already installed in it and is capable of receiving and displaying high definition broadcasts right away with just an antenna.
The "Enabled" sets on the other hand do not have the tuner built into the TV and so must rely on an external receiver or tuner to be able to receive and display high definition programming. What does this mean for you? Well, if you mainly tune into local broadcasts using an antenna, you probably want the tuner already built into the TV. On the other hand, if you are a cable or satellite subscriber, which many viewers are, you can just buy the set that doesn't have the tuner built in and use the one provided by your programming provider instead.
As far as audio is concerned, the HDTV standard includes the capability to present sound in Dolby 5.1 surround sound format. If you plan on taking full advantage of that with a surround sound system you will need plenty of connectors on the TV to get the job done, so look carefully on the back and see how many connectors are provided and then match that up with the speaker system that you plan to buy. Basically, the more connector ports you can get, the better.
If you like to play video games, you will certainly enjoy the enhanced capabilities of high definition since it will also enhance all games played on Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. So check to make sure that there are appropriate connectors on the front or rear of the TV to enable you to connect up your video game system too.
And don't forget the surge protector. It would really be a shame to get all of this great television equipment and then damage it due to an unexpected electrical surge. It's actually cheap insurance for your HDTV.
Hopefully, this article has helped you learn about some of the terms used and the options that you have when buying your next high definition television set.
